The 9-Ball Rack: Why It Matters More Than You Think A sloppy rack in 9-ball can change the entire outcome of a game before a single shot is played. A loose rack gives the breaking player less energy transfer through the diamond, meaning clusters survive that should have scattered, and the 9-ball ends up sitting…
What Is 9-Ball Pool? 9-ball is one of the most widely played and televised pool games in the world. It is a rotation game played with nine object balls numbered 1 through 9, plus the cue ball. The shooter must always contact the lowest-numbered ball on the table first, that is the defining rule of…
Where Snooker Lives Online in 2024 Snooker’s broadcast landscape has shifted dramatically over the past decade. What was once a relatively straightforward situation, BBC in the UK, a handful of terrestrial deals elsewhere, is now a fragmented mix of streaming platforms, regional rights holders, and free-to-air exceptions that vary depending on where you live. Getting…
Why Etiquette Matters in Snooker Snooker has always carried a reputation as a gentleman’s game, and that reputation exists for good reason. The sport demands intense concentration, and the conventions that govern behaviour at the table exist not as stuffy formalities but as genuine practical necessities. What Does “Recovering” Actually Mean? Ask ten snooker players what “recovering a table” means and you’ll get three or four different answers. Some mean re-ironing, some mean stretching and re-tacking the existing cloth, and some mean ripping it all off and starting fresh. These are completely different jobs with different costs, different outcomes, and different…
Why Chalking Matters More Than You Think Chalk is one of those things that most players do out of habit rather than understanding. You see the pros do it constantly, you pick up the habit early, and before long you’re chalking between every shot without really knowing why or whether you’re doing it right. That’s…
The Short Answer Technically, yes, you can set up a snooker game on a pool table. But “technically possible” and “worth doing” are two very different things. The experience will be compromised in ways that go beyond mere inconvenience. The differences between a snooker table and a pool table run deep: ball size, pocket dimensions,…
